How to make a sales order
A sales order confirms what the customer ordered, at what rate and by when. It keeps your team on track until the goods are delivered and billed.
Step by step
- Sales order details. Number, Date, Delivery by, and the Customer's PO number.
- Bill to. Pick the customer.
- Items. What was ordered, with agreed rates and GST.
- Save and share. Send the PDF as your order confirmation.
- Deliver and bill. Make a delivery challan (App › Sales › Convert to… › Delivery challan) or press Make invoice. Keep the Status up to date.
Worked example
Gill Builders sends PO GB/221 for 500 door hinges at ₹42 by 20 November. SO/26-27/011 confirms it. 300 go on 15 November (status Part delivered, invoice for 300), 200 on 19 November (status Delivered, second invoice).
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Using a sales order as the bill. Goods leave with a tax invoice, or a challan when the invoice follows; the order only confirms.
- Orders left Open for months. Close them as Delivered or Cancelled; the App's year end lists open orders.
